Despite its many attributes, The Glen does experience peak times that can result in overcapacity, particularly on Sundays around 4 PM. Those looking for a quieter dining experience may find it overly crowded during this period. Some customers mention that the menu can be limited, particularly during off-peak hours, which might leave diners wanting more variety.
Parking, while generally available, can become scarce during busy events, leading to a frustrating search for a space. Additionally, while the beer selection is widely appreciated, some beer enthusiasts desire a more expansive craft beer range to choose from. These minor concerns don't overshadow the overall positive experience, but they are worth considering when planning a visit.
We visited here for the first time and will return again. It has a lovely beer garden with a grass area, several benches and a children's play area and the staff were all attentive and friendly.
Fantastic pub, everything you could ask for. Great beer garden, somewhere for the kids to play. Open fire for the winter. Most importantly dog friendly 👍👍👍
I am bias, as The Glen is out local. But, we called in after a walk, with our two boys. The owners are great, asked if they could do us a couple of pizzas, they obliged with no hesitation (it was a Sunday, so Sunday lunch is on the menu). We only ordered margarita's, the pizzas were phenomenal, our boys loved them. So did I, any scraps they had left. They were fresh, Italian style. The pints were top notch. The Glen (in Gilstead. Not the Old Glen house in Baildon) is a great secluded gem, with a fantastic beer garden, definitely worth a visit for anyone who craves a proper country style pub, without to much travel. It's also 10-15 minutes walk from Shipley Glen, it's well worth a visit.
havent been to this pub for almost 2 decades. I know it had been due to close but rescued and very glad it has. Its kept its atmosphere while being modern. Nice conservatory and plenty of green space for kids (and adults) to enjoy. I won't leave it so long next time to visit.
I love going to the Glen, the staff are extremely friendly, and the food is excellent- the new menu items are really good, especially my new favourite, the chicken caesar salad special, the portion size is great and it costs less than a tenner (which is very rare these days), if you want something really tasty but not too heavy - Highly recommended!
Wanted somewhere with a nice beer garden. Wow it is massive and not in the side of a road like other pubs. A real sun trap and a small play area for children. Had some lunch and it was good. My daughter had fish and chips from the kids menu which came with a drink and ice cream for pudding. Her food looked lovely plenty big enough portion for a three year old. She couldn't eat all the fish. Would definitely recommend it. Oh and friendly service.
Despite not being 'regulars' we're always made to feel welcome and the atmosphere is comfortable. Pleasant staff and good food too. Happy to support a traditional pub in difficult trading times, therefore wouldn't complain about prices. Use it or lose it. Posted by Pub quiz winners 29.12.21 "Southern Comfort"
